Citizenship in Grota da Alegria
Location:
Grota da Alegria is
a community of about 12,000 people in the centre of Benedito Bentes, an impoverished
satellite community of 120,000 people near the capital, Maceio, in the northeastern
state of Alagoas, Brazil.
Project
Overview: This
purpose of this project to rescue and restore the cultural and human values of
Grota da Alegria (Grotto of Joy) through youth and adult education life skills
education, drug and alcohol abuse rehabilitation, reducing violence, income generation,
human rights and gender equality, cultural and popular entertainment, theatre,
sports and leisure activities.
